What is The World Wide Web?, What is WWW?,  What is Web?

     The World Wide Web, or WWW, or Web for short, is one of the services provided to users on the internet. It is actually a recent addition to the Internet. But its popularity has increased dramatically, because it so easy to use, so colorful and so rich in content. 

Basically, WWW is a series of inter-linked documents stored on computers or Web sites as they are called. You use special software called the browser on your computer to visit a WWW site, that will then bring up on you screen the first page of the document stored there. The first page is often referred to as the Home page 

Generally, a home page gives the name of the sponsor or host and also displays a list of highlighted words, buttons or images. These highlighted items are your links to further interaction and to other more detailed information. In this fashion, it becomes possible to link one document to one or more other documents. Starting with a visit to one site, you can now jump to different WWW sites and spend your time viewing different web documents. This is often called Surfing the Web. Today, the Web is a network of billions of interconnected documents. Things have become more interesting because many of these links are no longer just to text but to stunning colored pictures, videos, music, 3D animations, Movies and much more, and even virtual walk through experiences. Truly, distance has become less relevant.
